Vallejo’s Open City Hall is an ongoing project powered by Open Town Hall where city officials can start threads regarding any topics important to the city that they wish to have community input on. Each thread is given a designated time that it is open for comment, and after this time has passed, the thread is archived under the “Closed Topics” section that is still accessible but cannot be commented on. Community members can then give their input on the issue and view other members’ previous comments.
From the project website:
Open City Hall is an online forum for civic engagement. Read what others are saying about important Vallejo topics and post your own statement. City officials will read the statements and incorporate them into the decision-making process. When you post your first statement, you will be asked for your name and home address. This confidential information is only used to identify statements from residents in and near Vallejo, so that users know which statements are from local residents.
The project is connected to Google Translate, allowing for multilingual participation, especially from non-English speakers, in over 100 languages.
