The ParticipateDB 2018 Digital Engagement Census is a public data collection event that took place February 9-26, 2018 inviting the global field of community engagement and public participation practitioners to report how digital engagement – i.e., the art and practice of applying information and communications technologies to support, strengthen and/or expand community engagement and other participatory processes – is shaping their work.
The content and insights generated through this first-of-its-kind survey will be made available to the public via the ParticipateDB website. A follow-up practitioner dialogue in March 2018 will provide an opportunity to explore these findings further.
Launched in 2009, ParticipateDB has quickly grown to become the most comprehensive resource of its kind in the world today. The 2018 ParticipateDB Digital Engagement Census is an effort to significantly improve the breadth and depth of the site’s coverage, to boost adoption and to surface topics for future exploration and research.

In a nutshell, the ParticipateDB 2018 Digital Engagement Census invites community engagement and public participation practitioners from around the world to answer two basic questions:
The census will run for seventeen days.
Once the content collection phase has finished, the project team will handle quality assurance, provide content analysis and prepare a comprehensive report. The results of the census will be shared with the public.
A follow-up online event in March 2018 will provide respondents with an opportunity to study the results and dive deeper into some of the issues and themes that may have emerged by then.
The goal is to reach a diverse international audience, particularly from non-English speaking and developing countries.
